in McNabb House
McNabb House draws boys from all over the globe; Australian, Nigerian, German and Barbadian mix with Scots and English boys who may themselves have
travelled the world. Rugby holds a firm grip over many of those in the house and most years McNabb contributes a significant number of boys to the 1st XV. Football, cricket, swimming and debating are also well represented while many simply take pleasure in watching the endeavours of others. When not applying themselves in the classroom or excelling on the rugby field, the boys relax by playing pool or table tennis in the common room, make use of the PS2 or, collectively, may sit down and watch a movie on the DVD home cinema system. There are many musicians in the House, from pipers and drummers to members of rock bands. In McNabb, relaxation is taken seriously.
Although all meals are taken in the School dining room, suppers are served in the kitchen every evenin
g and it is here that stories are swapped, jokes exchanged and the general substance of Dollar life examined. All laundry is done in house but the boys are expected to aid the smooth running of McNabb by carrying out various duties rotated on a weekly basis. A boy may therefore find himself waking the house one week, helping in the kitchen the following and then relaxing for a week as his compatriots take over. Prep is, of course, an integral part of the school day and all boys spend two hours per evening (Monday to Thursday) 6.00 - 8.00 p.m preparing school work or revising for forthcoming examinations. A further two hours study is fitted in on a Sunday morning following our weekly Boarders Church Service.
