The Beauty of Mathematics
Recently, all pupils in Form II and a number of Form VI specialists were generously entertained when Adam McBride (OBE), Professor of Mathematics at Strathclyde University, paid a visit. In the wider world of Mathematics, Adam McBride needs no introduction. His extraordinary efforts to widen the appeal of Mathematics, and to help young people to appreciate its immense beauty and value, are well known. He is a recent past President of the distinguished Mathematical Association, and, for a number of years, led the UK International Mathematical Olympiad team to compete in exotic parts of the world (including Glasgow, which, under his organisation, hosted the highly successful 2002 event).
