Trips & Visits - Swiss Alps

Geography Trip to Swiss Alps 2008

Chocolate, cheese and glaciers – you can’t beat it! Leaving a grey Scotland behind we arrived in Geneva with temperatures in the high 20’s and were glad to enter the air conditioned UN buildings for a guided tour before travelling to our mountain resort of Les Mosses.  Next morning it was up early to visit the Gruyere cheese factory (some of the ingredients are pretty smelly!), before we enjoyed our fill of totally scrummy chocolate in the Nestle factory.  With full tummies we hurtled down summer toboggan runs and tried out the scooters and go-carts on the summer pastures.  A quick visit to Montreaux ended a busy day before bowling in the evening.  The following days were as busy with trips to a local cheese farm followed by an alpine walk, the Bex Salt Mines, having fun on the flumes at Aquaparc and negotiating the maze at Labrynthe Adventure.  To end the trip on a high point we journeyed into France to be whisked up the Aiguille du Midi.  The panoramic views were simply stunning but it wasn’t over yet.  We may have admired the glacial landforms but it was time to descend into the ice itself and enter the Mer de Glace.  What a trip!
